This is a photo I took the other morning behind a market. It looks like a house. Pretty sure it is. There is even a chicken in front picking through the muddy trash for food.
Anyway, it’s no wonder that most people here don’t have the same expectations to what a proper house should be, or rather be built like. Outside my apartment the paint is falling off the concrete walls, cracking, etc, but it’s a million times better than living in this place. Which, I would imagine was the place to be 10-20yrs ago.
Give it another 10-20yrs and demands about construction, materials, and quality with increase. Just not right now.
What concerns me is the fate of much of China’s buildings, and infrastructure has already been baked in the cake, and an assortment of problems will arise in the years ahead. It will cost an exorbitant amount of money, and require a hefty amount of resources & energy, to replace the shoddy works with projects built with good construction techniques.
Some stuff is great and will stand the test of time; however, based on what I’ve read about Chinese dams, I’m convinced the US wont’ be the only country with infrastructure problems in the future.
